Steampunk has its origins in Science Fiction so when it comes to inventions you are only restricted by your imagination.
The most popular Steampunk inventions are base around the discoveries of the time. The Industrial Revolution was a time of great change and optimism soared and people's imagination was set loose.
Many inventions were based around exploration, on land, in the ocean, into space and even within the Earth itself. The introduction of steam and electric power also revolutionised travel and encouraged the creation of some amazing vehicles and transportation apparatus. Time travel machines and Bio-mechanical hybrids were also among the science fiction writers and scientists creations.
Steampunk makers will often gain inspiration from the writing of the Science Fiction authors of the time and by researching some of the patented inventions of the Steam Era.
One of my inventors' philosophies is that it doesn't necessarily need to work , but it should look as though it could.
